Did any of you catch the big announcement? The New Kids are back! I caught them on the Today show announcing their return and reunion album/tour, and I was shocked by the screaming fans. The women were my age or older! Now, I was a huge fan around the fourth and fifth grade. They were my Hannah Montana/High School Musical of that day. My whole room was decorated in posters, buttons, trading cards, and cut out pages of Tiger Beat. I so remember my closet door which held my prize possession, the Joey McIntyre poster. Oh, my heart! I clearly recall my dad coming into my room after work with the Hangin' Tough cassette that I had begged him for! What a great dad! A few years later, when Eric and I first started dating I got razzed by his older brother who had seen my room at this time when he hung out with my older brother. It took a while to redeem myself. So with all the love I had for them in the past, it didn't hold up after all these years. Sad, but true. I have no desire for a new album or seeing them in concert. Lots of bands have formed reunion tours and have done well. I would think The New Kids wouldn't have a chance in filling the seats now days, but seeing the women yesterday, I might be wrong. Any of you willing to admit your love and excitement?!

darn...I thought that it was Eric posting until I saw the end part. Good for you for admitting it to the world! ....very brave. Always nice to get some inside information like that! hang tough
I too LOVED New Kids when I was 10. They are 1 of the only 2 concerts I've been to in my life. Although I loved them back then, there is no way I would go to their concert now. I would be interested in hearing what type of music they are trying to come back with.
Oh, oh, ah-oh-oh The Right Stuff! What tween girl did not love them? I even saw them in concert with my BFF :) There is absolutely no way that I would listen to them again. C'mon, does anybody still listen to Debbie Gibson or Tiffany? NO. I think they are dead to everyone out there.
Yeah, I have to admit, I went to see them at the Marriot center at BYU when I was there! Yes, they came and played at BYU....and I loved it! I did catch them on the Today show and also couldn't believe all the screaming fans..the word "Beatlemaina" was even used to describe it! I hope they do well, but I won't be listening this time.
i'm with you chrissy. 4th grade is one thing, but not now!!! my mom still has our jordan knight ken doll in the barbie bin at her house (complete with rat tail) and i get a big kick out of watching rylee and avery have their barbies "marry" him. :)
I don't remember being a huge fan (probably b/c my brothers wouldn't "let" me). Have you seen the movie "Music and Lyrics" with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore? It goes perfectly with what you're describing. If you haven't seen it, you really must.
Emily, I definitely had no part in this NKOTB love post. While Chrissy was dreaming of Joey McIntyre, I was in touch with my urban roots listening to Young MC's "Cold Stone Rhymin'". It was my first cassette and I now have the CD and I still love it. It doesn't get better than "Principal's Office" and "Bust A Move". Lyrical genius.
I just think they should change their name. New Kids On The Block doesn't quite fit when the youngest one is 35!!! I must say I'm interested to hear what they sound like now but I definitely won't be running out to buy the CD.
"more than water seen by a sailor, more than husbands of Elizabeth Taylor..." ..."this is a jam for all the fella's tryin' to do what their ladies tell em''.....I'm right there with you Eric! I still have the tape and STILL listen to it! (by the way, are you impressed with my skills?)
I can't believe it either!! I was a big fan ;)
Oh how I loved them...I wanted to marry one of them (I won't mention which one!) I went to their concert in Provo, had my room covered in posters and magazine cutouts...you know, this is one admission I hesitate to admit - and them coming back???? Ewwwww...that is kind of weird to me - they are super old now for the fan base they had then, (what 12-13 year old would love them now??) and their fans now that were fans then, we wouldn't act the same way, would we???
I am not ashamed to admit I HAD a new kids pillow case, cause you know it was easier to drool over them while I was sleeping and dreaming of them. I saw them on the today show while I was at the gym...almost fell off my eliptical laughing when they proclaimed there would be dancing at the concert, then declined to give a little taste and just said 'come to the show'. Wonder how many people are really sad they wouldn't dance and will buy a concert ticket just to see what they missed...
