Look What I Did!

A few years back I once thought of myself as somewhat of a craft person. I scrapbooked our photos, created decorations to make our small apartment homey, and even made a Halloween costume for Ella. Yes, that was old Chrissy. New Chrissy has half done projects sitting and waiting for some attention and all new pictures still in their envelope. But that all changed recently! I actually started a new project and finished it! Just in time too! For two years now I've had my eye on a Pottery Barn Halloween countdown calendar. Last year it sold out and this year it was back and in stock for a while. It is just adorable! My problem was, it's $56.00! With shipping and/or tax would have sent it to the $70 range, which although it's cute, I couldn't justify. I told Eric all about my love for this item and the idea of making my own. He kind of laugh and said, " If you want it THAT bad you should just buy it!" He knows my current craft struggles very well! We went to the mall and peeked in to see if they had one on display. As I opened it, I realized it was twice as big as I thought it would be and it didn't come with the items to fill the pockets. For the price, it wasn't what I really wanted. So I made the decision to make my own! With a trip to Jo Ann's, I felt ready to go. This was back in September! You know what happened to me in October. So last week, with my energy up again I finally finished! They girls love it and they didn't even care that we started on the 22nd! Eric was shocked that I actually finished it! I am so excited for our new Halloween tradition! With this craft bug in me now I'm ready for my next project!

I love that calendar and I'm super impressed if you made it just from looking at the Pottery Barn one! I'm such a perfectionist that I know it would take me forever to finish....so I'm proud of you! I'd love the pattern if you have one...it is super cute and so creative!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this and am SO impressed with your craftiness! I always talk about making one, but know that it would just end up in my pile of projects!
Nice job!!!

You have inspired me!

I ripped the page out of the PB magazine with this on it- totally thinking I could just make my own. It has, of course, been filed away in my to-do projects.

So- what supplies did you use? Felt? What did you put in the pockets?

So cute! I will have to get started on one soon- if I want it done before my kids are too old to really be into this type of thing!

Thanks for the sweet comments! I need to enjoy them because it will probably be another few years before I do anything crafty again! Sorry, I don't have a pattern. I really just took the picture and some felt and figured out how big I wanted it. Everything was done free hand except the Happy Halloween. I just cut out letters using Word and used that as my pattern. Luckily only having a week for the pockets, I didn't have to be too creative to fill them. I just used little treats or small toys. I'm trying to think of something else for next year. This really was a fun project. Here's the sizes if that helps any of you.
23 inches wide
28 inches long-I would have liked it a little longer.
3 inch blocks-glue first on the black felt and then secure it with the stiching.

Super Cute! Are you taking orders??? Don't even get me started on all my 'un-finsihed' projects. Moving right before the holidays is totally cramping my crafty style.

WOW! I can't believe you just copied that out of a magazine! Feel free to make me one if you ever get the urge to do it all again 'cause it was just so much fun!

I have to agree w/Kate about moving sucking the whole decorating/crafting right out of the holidays. Last night, on the way home from trick or treating, Elaina asked me when I was going to get out our Halloween decorations and wasn't at all impressed when I told her, "Next year!" ;) Love you, you crafty little thing, Kristin!
